Aloe vera is a versatile plant used for its medicinal properties for thousands of years. It contains many vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can benefit the skin and hair. While you can easily buy aloe vera gel from the store, making your own at home can be a fun and rewarding experience.

This article will share two ways to create pure organic aloe vera gel at home and preserve it for months.

Method 1: Using Xanthan Gum and Geogard Preservative

Ingredients:

  • 98 grams of aloe vera juice
  • 1.5 grams of xanthan gum (clear)
  • 0.5 grams geogrid 221 or geogrid ECT (natural preservative)

Instructions:

  1. Clean the aloe vera leaf and cut off the base.
  2. Place the aloe vera in a bowl with water.
  3. Leave it overnight to remove the yellow resin.
  4. Blend the aloe vera in a blender until it becomes a smooth liquid.
  5. Mix the xanthan gum and aloe vera juice well in a separate bowl.
  6. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  7. Add the preservative to the juice and mix well.
  8. Add in the xanthan gum and mix well.
  9. Cover the bowl for 3-4 hours and let the liquid thicken.
  10. Your natural organic aloe vera gel is ready to use.
  11. Store the aloe vera gel in a jar and use it within 6 months.

Usage:

  • 2 tbsp aloe vera gel for moisturizing skin
  • 1 tsp oil of your choice (such as rosehip seed oil) (optional)
  • Few drops of licorice oil for the skin (as a skin brightener)
  • Rosemary oil (to boost hair growth)

Method 2: Using Xanthan Gum, Glycerin, and Geogard Preservative

Ingredients:

  • 95 grams of pure organic aloe vera water
  • 1.5 grams of xanthan gum (clear)
  • 3 grams glycerin
  • 0.5 grams geogrid 221 or geogrid ECT (natural preservative)

Instructions:

  1. Clean the aloe vera leaf and cut off the base.
  2. Place the aloe vera in a bowl with water.
  3. Leave it overnight to remove the yellow resin.
  4. Blend the aloe vera in a blender until it becomes a smooth liquid.
  5. Mix the xanthan gum, glycerin, and aloe vera water well in a separate bowl.
  6. Add the preservative to the mixture and mix well.
  7. Cover and let it rest for 1-2 hours to thicken into a gel.
  8. Store the aloe vera gel in a jar for up to 6 months.

Usage:

  • 1/2 – 1 tsp bakuchiol oil (natural retinol) for a natural face serum before bedtime
  • 2 tbsp aloe vera gel for moisturizing hair
  • 2 tbsp rose water (to promote a healthy scalp)
  • 1/2 – 1 tsp black seed oil or pumpkin seed oil (to boost hair growth)
  • Few drops of rosemary oil (to regrow hair)
